If you or a loved one have asthma or allergies, building or renovating projects can seem daunting due to the risk of exposure to dust mites, mould and hidden chemicals leading to nose, eye and skin irritation, coughing, sneezing or wheezing and even severe reactions in some people.
The National Asthma Council’s Sensitive Choice Program Manager, Adele Taylor, says a good first step is to visit the Sensitive Choice stand (M06) at the Melbourne Home Show to find out about home and building products that can help you and your family live better with asthma and allergies.
“As a long-time exhibitor, we are delighted that Sensitive Choice will be at the Melbourne Home Show, ready to connect you with the best products and services to help you live better with asthma and allergies.
“There is increased demand for building products suitable for those with sensitivities and we can provide advice on everything from paint, plasterboard, carpet and glue, to heating and cooling. Less-irritating products often feature reduced allergens, fragrance and chemical content, so they are good not only for any family members with asthma and allergies, but every member of the household,” she said.
The National Asthma Council Australia’s Sensitive Choice program has been helping to educate and empower consumers to identify asthma and allergy-aware products and services through the trusted blue butterfly since 2006.
“All products and services that carry the Sensitive Choice blue butterfly have been reviewed and approved by an independent expert panel and includes hundreds of products – everything from building products and cleaning agents, to air purifiers and vacuum cleaners.
“We will be delighted to talk to you about steps you can take to help you live better with asthma and allergies while doing a renovation yourself or working with a builder, architect or trade.
“A key element is understanding your asthma and allergy triggers to help you make the right decision in terms of building design and product selection, so if you don’t know what your triggers are, speak to your doctor about being tested,” she said.
Ms Taylor, a passionate home builder and renovator herself, says one of the favourite aspects of her role is working with Sensitive Choice partners to influence trends in products and services to help support those with asthma and allergies.
“At Sensitive Choice we work with some of Australia’s largest building companies as well as smaller niche building suppliers and manufacturers and are constantly encouraging those companies as well as new prospects to produce products and services that are asthma and allergy friendly,” she said.
Ms Taylor will be presenting on the Melbourne Home Show Interiors Stage at the following times:
- Friday 21st April – 4.30-5.15pm
- Saturday 22nd April – 4.30-5.15pm
“Please come along to find out more about the right products and services to help with asthma and allergies during building and renovating and join me as I bust some common asthma and allergy myths around building,” she said.
Sensitive Choice partners will also have some great information and promotions at the stand including:
