Why Easter is the perfect time to think about air quality
Easter is a wonderful family holiday time for many, but when you live with asthma and other respiratory conditions, it also marks the change of seasons.

Toxic mould after floods can lead to asthma flare-ups

After (hopefully!) an enjoyable summer living outdoors or with doors and windows open, cooler temperatures mean that Easter sees us battening down the hatches – closing windows and doors, turning on the heaters and spending more time indoors.
So far so snuggly!
The problem, of course, is that with less airflow and more people inside, indoor air quality can take a real hit. Levels of moisture, mould spores and pesky volatile organic compounds (VOCs) all rise at this time of the year and can be bad news for anyone living with asthma.
Moisture can come from all sorts of places… even breathing can create moisture. So, unless your home is well-ventilated, it’s just going to build up and create the damp, unpleasant conditions that mould just loves.
VOCs can come from unexpected places too. Everything from hair spray and underarm deodorant, to cut flowers and even painted walls and new furniture can load up your breathing air with invisible irritating chemicals.
Ventilate and breathe easy
HRV home ventilation is one way to solve the problem, which is why we’re proud to have them as a Sensitive Choice partner. HRV home ventilation brings in drier air from your roof cavity, filters it to reduce mould spores, dust and pollen, then delivers it into your home, forcing out stale damp air, along with any buildup of VOCs.
The secret is HRV’s advance multi-layer filtration. Every HRV home ventilation system has a filter at its heart, ensuring that every breath of air that makes its way into your family’s home has passed through multiple filtration layers to make sure that the air you’re breathing is as clean as it can be.
Dial up the warmth
Air quality matters, but it’s just as important that your home is in a healthy temperature range. Heat pumps are a quiet, very efficient way to heat one or several rooms. Working together with a ventilation system, they’re a great combo to create a drier, warmer, healthier home.
Whether you just want to warm one room (such as a bedroom or family room) or go for a whole-home ducted system, a heat pump can be a very smart and cost-effective choice. And here’s a bonus: come summer, your HRV-installed heat pump doubles as an air conditioner, keeping your family cool all day (and all night) long.
