That’s why Pro Clima is proud to partner with the Sensitive Choice program to promote healthier, asthma and allergy-friendly homes for Kiwis. Together, we’re improving indoor environments, and at the core of our effort is airtightness—a crucial but often overlooked part of healthy building design. 

The Importance of Indoor Air Quality and Airtightness

Airtightness is key to ensuring that homes are healthy and energy efficient. By preventing unwanted air leaks, airtight construction reduces drafts, keeps pollutants out, and allows for control of indoor ventilation—all of which contribute to healthier indoor air. With Pro Clima’s INTELLO® intelligent airtightness membrane, homes are more comfortable for everyone, including those with asthma or allergies. 

Poor indoor air quality is too common in New Zealand. Too many homes have issues with dampness or mould, which can seriously affect the health of those living in them. New Zealand’s health system spends $8.4 billion yearly addressing health issues linked to poor-quality housing, including respiratory disease. Mould, which grows in damp, poorly ventilated homes, is a major contributor to these health issues and is a common trigger of asthma and allergies.

Good indoor air quality is essential for all people and especially for families with vulnerable members, such as children, the elderly, or those with asthma or allergies. This campaign aims to raise awareness about airtight construction and how it can improve comfort and long-term health. Increasing awareness will empower Kiwis to demand better housing and prioritise people when planning new builds or renovations.
